About Me
Naomi and I live in Monterey, CA, where we have raised our two daughters, Alex (23) and Maya (20).

I am a Professor of Service Learning and Director of the
Service Learning Institute at California State University, Monterey Bay.  My research focuses on supporting universities to become more involved in social change efforts, and to build stronger partnerships with underserved communities.

For the academic year 2017-18, I will be a European Union Fulbright Schuman Scholar.  I will be working with two European universities to strengthen their service learning programs, with a special focus on issues of migration, diversity and community-building.  In Fall 2017, I will be at the University of Brighton, England.  In Spring 2018, I will be at the University of Bologna, Italy.  Both universities are part of the European Union's initial service learning initiative, Europe Engage.

Hopefully, my BLOG page will be a mix of insights from my Fulbright work and travel stories as Naomi and I explore the UK, Italy and beyond.  If you want to skip the prose and go direct to the images, go straight to the TRAVEL PICS page.  And if you're intrigued by the prose, there is much more on the RECENT SCHOLARSHIP page.

Enjoy!  Contact info:  [email protected]

This is NOT the University of Brighton; but rather, the Brighton Royal Pavilion.

This IS the University of Bologna, founded in 1088. The oldest university in Europe.
